History of Wisconsin
We are lucky to live in a state with such a rich and varied history. As such, we study the history of Wisconsin, ranging from the influence and history of Native Americans to the immigration and development of industries and other ethnic groups that make Wisconsin unique.
Learner Outcomes: • Describe how people, past and present, have adapted to the environment and used the natural resources of Wisconsin • Predict what might happen with wise and unwise use of natural resources • Identify explorers of Wisconsin (ancient and European) and their contributions to the development of WI using timelines • Identify various parts of the world that immigrants came from and describe what life was like for them • Understand ways in which various ethnic groups have and do contribute to WI • Understand how positive relationships can be developed among Wisconsin’s ethnic groups • Understand that different cultural backgrounds sometimes lead to conflict • Describe challenges that the people in WI may face in the 21st century • Demonstrate a knowledge of reducing, reusing, and recycling products • List ways people make a living and describe some of the ways business, industry, agriculture, and labor have contributed to Wisconsin’s development • Name some of the products Wisconsin specializes in and describe what this means in terms of producer/consumer roles • Understand the history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of the Native American tribes located in WI • Understand the significance of national and state holidays, such as Independence Day and Martin Luther King |
